Join us to honor and celebrate Baltimore suffragist Edith Houghton Hooker when we unveil a historic marker dedicated to her. The marker will be mounted on the side of the building that was once the Woman's Industrial Exchange. The MWHC now occupies the first floor of that building. Edith was a critically important and an essential figure in the Maryland campaign for women’s suffrage. To date, Ms. hooker has receive little public recognition. That will change when the Maryland Women's Heritage Center, in collaboration with the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, will unveil Maryland's 10th historical suffrage marker in her honor. Fittingly, the marker will be placed on the side of the Woman's Industrial Exchange (current home of the MWHC). Mrs. Hooker founded the Just Government League (JGL) whose offices were located just steps away on Pleasant Street.
